"Collecting designer vinyl toys is not at all like the macarena. It takes patience. It is like a fine well-aged prostitute. It takes years to learn her tricks. She is cruel, expensive, addictive, and laughs at you when you are naked. But no matter what, you keep coming back for more and more. Why? Because she is the only art you can afford."
-Leonardo da VinciRecently a 40-year-old Merseyside man named David Moore was arrested and sentenced to three years for stealing £783,098 ($1,399,174 CAN) by cashing company cheques over the course of four years from his employer Typolac, a Lancashire printing firm. Police found at least £600,000 had passed through his accounts in the past four years and at least £250,000 had been spent on eBay and other Internet websites. What could he have possibly spent this massive amount on? Cars perhaps? Nope. Drugs? Nuh uh. Maybe a large house? I'm afraid not. Pause apparel? Well..yeah, a little bit. But let's keep that on the down low. No, it seems ol' Dave spent every single pence of it on designer vinyl toys. $1,399,174. On toys.
I'll give you a moment to let that sink in.
When police raided his house they found numerous boxes of the small figurines stacked in the attic, with prices ranging anywhere from $50 to $2500 each. Pictures of his collection can been on his Flickr account
HERE.
You can joke all you want, but collecting designer vinyl clearly ruins lives. So because I care so much about your well being, please send all of your vinyl collections to me, and I will...um...properly dispose of them for you, for a
small fee. Hurry, before it's too late.
